Resilience and Coping Strategies of University Youth Discussed at Seminar

The Unit Quality and Accreditation Commission of Süleyman Demirel University Atayalvaç Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) organized a seminar titled “Health, Illness and Society: Psychosocial and Mental Resilience and Coping Strategies of University Youth During Epidemics and Health Crises.” The event took place on October 14, 2025, at the Atayalvaç SHMYO Conference Hall with the participation of Sociologist Dr. Selameddin Baysal.

Approximately 50–60 students attended the seminar. The event emphasized that the concepts of health and illness should be addressed not only from a biological perspective but also through psychological and social dimensions. The seminar discussed the psychosocial effects of stress, uncertainty, and social isolation experienced by university students during epidemic and crisis periods. It also highlighted the importance of social support, emotional awareness, and the search for meaning in enhancing mental resilience.

Dr. Baysal underlined that strengthening coping strategies and maintaining hope are essential for both individual and collective resilience.

 

According to participant feedback, the seminar’s content was highly consistent with its intended goals, and the speaker’s expertise and engaging presentation created significant awareness among students. The event was observed to strengthen students’ mental resilience and enhance their social sensitivity.

The seminar was organized under the coordination of Lect. Mahsum Aruti and Lect. Kubilay Güngörer.
